Must Love Dogs Storyline

The preschool teacher Sarah (Diane Lane) divorced from her beloved husband eight moths ago, but she is still very vulnerable and alone. Her family presses her to find a new Mr. Right, and her sister Carol (Elizabeth Perkins) puts her profile on the site PerfectMatch.com. She has blind dates with odd guys, but she particularly likes Jake (John Cusack), who divorced three months ago and still misses his former wife. Jake likes her too, but Sarah has one night stand with Bob (Dermot Mulroney), the father of one of her students, and Jake gives-up on her. Later Sarah finds that Jake is her perfect match.

Must Love Dogs trivia

According to director 'Gary David Goldberg' (qv), he gave the script to 'John Cusack (I)' (qv) and encouraged him to change any of his character's dialogue to better suit him. Goldberg was surprised by Cusack's response, who later sent the director about 35 pages of new dialogue for his character.
The dog "Mother Theresa" was played by two 6-month old Newfoundland puppies named Molly (who did most of the work) and Maeve (who performed the water scene). Director 'Gary David Goldberg' (qv) adopted both puppies at the end of filming.
'Gary David Goldberg' (qv)'s company mascot, UBU, is a Newfoundland--the same dog in the film. "Sit, Ubu, Sit. Good dog."
The "sticks" that the kids hop through in the beginning of the movie is a traditional Filipino dance. Tinikling is a dance where the sticks actually open and close to the beat of the music and dancers step through them gracefully.
