Scoop Storyline

A young journalist student, Sondra Pransky, travels from America to England to interview a famous actor. After the not-so-complete interview her friend and she go to a magic show. When selected to take part in one of the acts Sondra is contacted by a recently deceased famous journalist who is determined to give her his last scoop. He tells her that the son of Lord Lyman, Peter Lyman, is the tarot card killer. Dragging along Sid Waterman, a kooky magician, Sondra attempts to discover who Peter Lyman really is and if he is a killer. What she doesn't realize is that while she is trying to protect the country of England her heart might be what is really in jeopardy.

The film is the second of Allen's films (the other being _Hollywood Ending (2002)_ (qv)) not to have a UK theatrical release.
Scoop is one of three 2006 films to feature both the topic of magic and magicians as main characters. The other two are _The Illusionist (2006)_ (qv) and _The Prestige (2006)_ (qv), the second of which also stars 'Hugh Jackman' (qv) and 'Scarlett Johansson' (qv). Mr Allen was tutored magic and illusion for the movie by 'Scott Penrose' (qv).
'Woody Allen' (qv) specifically wrote the script for 'Scarlett Johansson' (qv) after working with her on _Match Point (2005)_ (qv).
The lead character (originally an adult journalist) was tailored specifically to Johansson, whom Allen observed as having an unused "funny" quality about her while working on the previous film _Match Point (2005)_ (qv).
